Free Windows Mobile 2003 for T-Mobile PPC Phone

T-Mobile has released a free upgrade for its PocketPC Phone Edition units, bringing them up to Windows Mobile 2003. The update has actually been flickering on and off their site for a week or so with no notice, but now the company has made an official announcement, and they should have a stable download available.

PalmOne quarterly financials

PalmOne came out with their quarterly financial report a few days ago. Amongst the highlights:

The company sustained a loss of $9.3 million, or about $0.20 per share, compared to a loss of $172 million for the same quarter last year.

The average selling price of a device is $233, up from $169, probably the result of demand for the Treo 600 and Tungsten|T3.

Market share went up to 57.7%.

All this, along with an increase in revenue, means the company is expected to turn solid profits for fiscal year ’05.

Rumor: No Cobalt devices until Autumn release cycle

According to a CeBIT attendee posting on ClieSource, he was told by PalmOne representatives that their first handhelds running Cobalt wouldn’t be available until the fall.

This is actually relatively in line with what we’re seeing for the upcoming Spring release cycle by PalmOne. All the rumored models–Tungsten|E2, Zire 31, and Zire 72–are low and midrange models, nothing high-end. Unless PalmOne has something massively secret on their hands, it looks like the high end is remaining untouched for the time being, ahead of renovations in the Q3 release cycle.
