SoftMaker has released PlanMaker for Pocket PC 1.0, a Microsoft Excel-compatible spreadsheet application.

Although all Pocket PCs come with Pocket Excel, this doesn’t offer many of the features users have come to expect from using the desktop version of this product, including charts and images. When a spreadsheet is edited on a handheld, everything in it that Pocket Excel doesn’t support is stripped out.

PlanMaker for Pocket PC This is not true of PlanMaker. This application is able to seamlessly convert back and forth Microsoft Excel 5.0, 95, 97, 2000, XP, 2003, and Excel for Apple Macintosh files into a format that can be used on the handheld.

PlanMaker features include more than 320 functions, shape drawing, and more than 70 chart types in 2D and 3D. It also has a spell-checker.

PlanMaker is available for $49.95 through the SoftMaker web site.

SoftMaker is best known as the developer of TextMaker, the gold-standard in Pocket PC word processors. Those who already own this application can get PlanMaker for $34.95.
