The Rdio online music streaming service, a rival to Spotify and Pandora, is picking up more headway with a new, socially enabled app for iOS, along with service rollouts to seven more countries.
Issued through Apple’s App Store this week, the iOS app update introduces a slick new user interface (UI) that features album artwork and song information more prominently on the screen in the song list view.
Rdio has also toted social networking services from its Web and desktop versions over to the iOS app. Users of the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch can now see which albums their friends are listening to in the list view (assuming that their friends are using the Rdio service, of course).
Last week, Rdio posted a less extensive update to its Android app on Google Play, featuring bug fixes and new Italian language support.
Additionally, Rdio has now launched its streaming service to Mexico, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania and Austria, bringing the grand total of countries served to 24.
Monthly subscriptions to Rdio Unlimited — which provides unlimited Web streaming and unlimited mobile streaming — are priced at $9.99.
Subscriptions to Rdio Web — for unlimited Web streaming on your browser or desktop — are regularly priced at $4.99 per month.
Meanwhile, though, Rdio is providing six-month free trials of Rdio Web in the US and 15 other countries.
