Just a few hours after the Dell press call and an insiders only Palm call on Thursday, Handspring held a private launch party for the Treo 600 in New York. bargainPDA.com did get an invite, but unfortunately were not able to attend. The good news though, is that we now have official launch dates, carriers and pricing available.
Here’s how things will work:
Sprint will carry a slightly modified Treo 600 on their system. I doubt this is as much about Sprint using the CDMA network as it is Sprint more or less saving Handspring from bankruptcy by pushing their Treo 300 so hard over the past year. Sprint will release the Treo 600 on October 13th and should sell for $499 without service and $399 with a new account.
October 20th release date for business customers, a few weeks later before the stores get them in stock in any sort of quantity. Retail price of $549 or $449 for a new account.
T-Mobile – AT&T
Roughly similar release plans to Cingular.
Handspring is also offering $100 credit for current Treo owners. Sprint is offering a better deal as they are subsidizing some of the cost in an attempt to expand market share as they continue to invest millions of dollars in their data network.
