Review – Chroma Game Pack from Astraware

by Reads (3,485)

ChromaGames is a three-pack of Chess, Checkers, and Backgammon for PalmOS handhelds in a single application.

ChromaGames continues Astraware’s reputation for quality games. The visual quality of the gameboards is quite appealing. Even on a low-res device the boards are quite aesthetically pleasing, and the interface follows the classic rules of simplicity, allowing you to quickly and easily switch between active games of chess, checkers, and backgammon. Checkers and Chess feature five skill levels, even the lowest of which does not stoop to ‘lobotomized punching bag’. For some unknown reason, Backgammon comes with only one skill options.

For those who don’t know how to play, rules and instructions are provided for each game, as well as a ‘hint’ option. Games are saved in a seperate file, so that they can be saved and shared. Another perk of the ChromaGames pack is that all three offerings share not only a single interface, but a single icon, lessening clutter in your launcher and making switching between games unneccessary.

The ChromaGames pack is very nice for what it is: three relatively vanilla but still enjoyable games. Whether chess, checkers, and backgammon are worth it for you is a judgement call, but you won’t find a better package of them anywhere else.ChomaGames is also available for HighRes OS5 devices.
