HP has released a ROM update for the iPAQ h6315. This is intended to fix many of the problems customers have had with this cellular-wireless Pocket PC.
According to HP, this software update offers:
- Improved overall stability
- Improved Bluetooth performance
- Improved voice quality
- Improved email performance
- Other general improvements
T-Mobile U.S.A. is the only wireless carrier offering h6315, and therefore the ROM update can be found on T-Mobile’s web site. It is, of course, available free of charge.
In February, HP released versions of this ROM update for two non-U.S. h6300 series models.
An Important Update
T-Mobile U.S.A. began selling the h6315 in August of last year. Since that time this cellular-wireless Pocket PC has not done terribly well, and users had performance complaints and stability problems with the device.
Because of this, T-Mobile stopped offering the h6315 earlier this month.
However, according to a leaked internal document, T-Mobile is not giving up hope on the h6315. If T-Mobile is sufficiently pleased with this ROM update, the carrier will begin offering the h6315 again.
What’s a ROM Update?
The ROM is where the operating system and built-in applications are stored. Changes made to the files in ROM are permanent and will survive the device undergoing a hard reset.
Updating the ROM will erase everything that’s on the handheld, including the contents of the File Store.
