Many people have been anticipating the next round of Axim PDAs to be released from Dell. The latest rumor circulating is that we can expect a new model from Dell in November and it will be titled the Axim X3.
The latest rumors originate form Pocket PC Italia, according to them Dell will be releasing the Axim X3 in November. Dell will release two versions of the X3 much as they did with the Axim X5. The advanced Axim X3 will have a 400MHz processor while the standard and cheaper model will come with a 300MHz processor. Each unit will be equipped with 64MB of RAM and 48MB of ROM and an SDIO slot. The X3 will likely come in a smaller form factor than the current X5 and the device battery will be either a 1100mAh and 1400mAh Lithium Ion rechargeable type. Most interestingly, the X3 may come with the next revision of the Intel XScale processor, the Intel PXA26x. Here’s a blurb from Intel’s site about the PXA260 processor:
While the Intel PXA260 processor utilizes an identical footprint in a stand alone discreet solution, the Intel PXA261, PXA262 and PXA263 processors are the first Intel PCA processors based on Intel’s Multiple-Chip Product (MCP) packaging technology. This innovative technology utilizes an Intel XScale technology based processor with integrated peripherals which are “stacked” in a single package with either 16 MegaBytes (Intel PXA261) or 32 MegaBytes (Intel PXA262 and PXA263) of Intel StrataFlash memory. This enables higher levels of integration and space savings than previous generations of Intel PCA processor standalone products.
It is also expected Dell will release a Bluetooth/WiFi-integrated device around December time as well as a GSM/GPRS version.
