It appears that the release date of Toshiba’s newest Pocket PCs is moving closer. An online retailer has leaked the first picture and some details about this upcoming handheld.
According to eCost, the Toshiba e405 will run Windows Mobile 2003 on a 300 MHz Intel XScale PXA261 processor. It will have 64 MB of RAM. It is not yet known how much of this will be accessible to the user.
eCost is not the first web store to leak details of this model. Early last month, both J&R and Amazon.com briefly posted product descriptions for it. According to them, the e405 will have a 3.5″ TFT screen with a 240-by-320 pixel resolution. Whether this is a reflective or transflective screen is not clear. It will have a single SD/MMC slot which will support SDIO. It will also include a built-in 980mAh Lithium-Ion battery. How long this model’s battery life will be is not yet known.
Reportedly, this upcoming model will be 4.9 inches tall, 3.0 inches wide, and 0.4 inches thick (12.4 x 7.6 x 1.0 cm). It will weigh 5.1 ounces (145 g).
According to J&R, Toshiba’s suggested price for the e405 is $299, though eCost is planning to charge $290.
It isn’t unusual for an online retailer to accidentally post the details of an unannounced handheld on their web site. The information leaked in this way is generally fairly accurate, with occasional errors.
This isn’t the only handheld Toshiba is planning to release this season. It recently received FCC approval to release the e805, a high-end model with Wi-Fi. eCost’s picture of e405 shows that is will closely resemble the e805.
