RumorMill™: Picture of upcoming Dell Axim X3?

Dell has been talking since last year about making a Pocket PC that is even less expensive than its Axim X5 line. The release of this is expected in the near future and rumors giving more information have been popping up all over the Web.

Courtesy of PDA Club Last week, PDA Club, a site based in Poland, posted what it claims is a picture and some additional details for this handheld.

According to this, there will be two models in the X3 series, a Basic and and Advanced. Both will run an Intel PXA263 processor, but at 400 MHz and 300 MHz, respectively. Both will have 64 MB of RAM.

They will have a single SD/MMC memory card slot, which will be compatible with the SDIO NOW! standard. Its infrared port will support consumer IR.

The X3 series will also include a 3.5 inch, 240-by-320 pixel, transflective screen. Each will be 4.6 by 3.0 by 0.6 inches (117 x 76 x 14.8) and weigh 5.3 ounces (150 g).

The Advanced model will have some form of wireless, though it is not yet known if this will be Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. However, the picture shows a fairly sizable external antenna, which wouldn’t be necessary on a device with Bluetooth.

The Advanced one will come with a cradle, while the Basic one will have a USB cable. Both will use a 950 mAh battery.

PDA Club‘s information agrees closely with earlier rumors. Several rumors have said in the past that there would be two models in the X3 line, a Basic and an Advanced, running at 400 MHz and 300 MHz.

In addition, an anonymous source told Brighthand last week that the Advanced model will have some form of wireless networking. According to this source, the Axim X3 Series will be announced on October 15, and are expected to be available a week or so after that.

Last year, a Dell executive said his company will release some time this year a handheld with a color screen that costs less than $150. Another told News.com that Dell will release a model with integrated Wi-Fi before the end of this year. It’s possible the X3 line will satisfy both these promises.
