A new report adds to the growing evidence that Apple intends to release a tablet-shaped computer with a 10-inch touchscreen and a focus on movies, music, and e-books.

The Financial Times is the latest of many to publish an unconfirmed report about this upcoming model. Despite all the leaks, details are sketchy. Still, many of features of this tablet have emerged.

This tablet computer will have wireless access to the Internet, including iTunes. This will allow users to download music and also video to play on the relatively large display. In addition, it’s expected to function as an ebook reader.

All of the features one would expect in a mobile computer will supposedly also be included: web browser, email software, etc.

Possibly Coming to Verizon
Apple’s tablet computer will almost certainly have Wi-Fi. but previous reports have said that it may also include wireless service from Verizon.

Apple has an agreement that gives AT&T exclusive rights to all its smartphones, but this tablet isn’t expected to have phone service, just wireless Internet access.

At launch, this device would likely have EV-DO Rev A,. but future versions might sport LTE, this carrier’s upcoming 4G service.

But What’s the OS?
None of the unconfirmed reports can answer a fundamental questions on this computer: what operating system will it run?

The FT’s sources apparently said nothing on this subject, but earlier rumors indicate that Apple’s UMPC will run a version of the iPhone’s OS. This would fit in with the reports that it will have a touchscreen.

The further muddy the water, one report said Apple is developing an operating system especially for this device that will combine features of OS X and the iPhone OS.

According to the latest info, this product is scheduled to be released in time for this year’s holiday shopping season.
