Sales soar for handheld software According to a report from market researcher NPD Intelect, Software Sales for PDA s jumped 3 times over the prior year. And just what software was leading the way? Games what else! Revenues didn t keep pace with units sold (900,000 in 2001 vs. 225,000 in 2000) however, as the average price of a program fell from $42 to $30 over the course of the year. NPD suggests the falling prices are a direct result of PDA Manufacturers slashing their prices. “Prices for the software have to keep in line with hardware prices,” he said. “It wouldn’t do to have a lot of this software priced at $50 when the hardware it runs on is going for $299.” The other factor holding prices down is the abundance of freeware and shareware in the marketplace. Simply go to or our software store J to see the overwhelming number of programs available. In a somewhat related note, is beginning to add software reviews and pricing information to our database.
