Samsung announces the cheapest Pocket PC so far (pictures)

In cooperation with Microsoft, Samsung today released details on a concept Pocket PC that attacks Palm OS PDA s at their roots, the low-cost entry-level PDA. For the first time in a while, they re talking grayscale. Get this, it weighs in at only 2.9 ounces, making it potentially the lightest PDA on the market.


The other critical measurements are 4.1 inches long and 2.8 inches wide. No details on depth. The unit is to be powered by an ARM9-based S3C2410 processor and will come with a single secure digital slot with input/output abilities. Specs on the memory have not been confirmed but it seems 32MB would be reasonable, given the desire to keep costs down.


Keep in mind that this is a concept PDA, which means Samsung likely will manufacture it as an OEM to be distributed under another brand name. Microsoft is billing it as an ultra low cost device. Nothing official, but $150 or lower would not be unreasonable for something like this. For now, check out these pictures:
