Sprint and Samsung have pulled the plug on an over-the-air update sent out to the Epic 4G on account of a small number of customers who experienced technical issues, resulting in a failure to upgrade.
However, the update was not working for some customers, so on Thursday Sprint posted another announcement on the community website saying that the maintenance release had been temporarily suspended.
What’s the Problem?
Details in that post about what exactly caused the problems were virtually nonexistent, as it simply said, “Sprint and Samsung have temporarily suspended the Samsung Epic 4G over-the-air upgrade to Android 2.2 (Froyo) as a result of issues experienced by a small number of customers.”
Later, however, Sprint posted edits in its original Epic 4G update forum about refreshing the phone’s SD card index and calendar sync, both of which were the roots of the problem for some users.
The update was to bring Google Android OS 2.2 (Froyo) to Epic 4G phones, which ran Éclair previously. In addition to other new functions like Bluetooth voice dialing , GPS enhancements, and the ability install applications to external storage, the update to Froyo would bring Adobe Flash capabilities to this smartphone.
