Samsung Launches Its First UMPC… Sort Of

In a press event in San Fransisco yesterday, Samsung officially launched the Q1, its first Ultra Mobile PC (UMPC), and one of the first of this new class of devices to be offered by anyone.

Samsung’s event, though, was somewhat marred by the fact that it had already announced the Q1 a few months ago, and this device isn’t available yet.

At this point, it can only be pre-ordered from CDW, and Best Buy will begin offering it at some point in the near future. Keep in mind, though, it will only be available online.

Many were pleased to see that the official price for this UMPC is $1,100. That’s still out of many peoples’ budgets, but much less than the $1,500 that Samsung originally said it would charge for it.
