samsung galaxy s iv zoomOn Wednesday, Samsung officially introduced the Samsung Galaxy S IV Zoom. The handset joins an expanding group of Galaxy S IV offshoots including the Galaxy S IV Active, S IV Mini, and the Galaxy S IV Google Edition.

Samsung’s official announcement came after images of the device were leaked on Tuesday, and as previously speculated, the Samsung handset will offer a 16 megapixel rear-facing camera. The rear shooter is the main focus of the new device as Samsung looks to offer a high-end compact camera in its flagship handset.

The camera on the Galaxy S IV Zoom combines a 10x Optical Zoom with its 16 megapixel BSI CMOS Sensor, which will be able to tackle a wide array of lighting conditions. The device also has built-in Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), helping to reduce image blur and provide high-quality photos and video.

The Galaxy S IV Zoom also offers a new feature called the Zoom Ring, which will allow users to quickly access the Galaxy S IV Zoom’s key features. For example, a quick twist of the Zoom Ring will allow users to share a photo instantly while in the midst of a phone call. Zoom Ring will also allow users to activate quick launch and shortcut features, including access to multiple camera modes.

Users will also be able to connect and share photos with one another via Photo Suggest. The new feature connects users to libraries of images taken by other photographers. For the less savvy among us, Zoom also features Smart Mode, which offers users a series of simple pre-set modes and the camera will adjust as needed from there to capture the best image possible.

As for the rest of the specs, the Galaxy S IV Zoom will offer a 4.3-inch qHD sAMOLED (960 x 540) display, a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, 1.5 GB of RAM, and 8 GB of internal storage with microSD support. The device will run Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) and sports a 2,300 mAh battery.
