Samsung Prepping an Android Smartphone for Sprint

Samsung has confirmed that it is working on a smartphone running Google’s Android OS which will be debut this year from two U.S. wireless carriers.

AndroidDetails on this model are not yet available, but Samsung is willing to say it will have a touchscreen. Earlier unconfirmed reports indicate this device will have a design similar to Samsung’s Omnia and Instinct. If so, it will be a tablet without a hardware keyboard.

Naturally, it will include  the standard Android applications that tie in to Google services, like its email, mapping, and instant message services.

Whatever its design, this smartphone will be released by Sprint and T-Mobile. It will likely be Sprint’s first Android-based device, while T-Mobile has had the G1 on the market for several months now.

Exactly when the release will be is not yet known, but the earlier reports say it should happen by mid-year. Pricing is also unknown.
