Given the popularity of the Note II, the recent report from the Korean Times, which suggests that Samsung is currently working on the Galaxy Note III does not come as a surprise. What is a surprising though is the device’s reported 6.3-inch display.
Increasing the display size has been the normal progression for the Note series; but the current jump is monstrous when compared to the previous change of 5.3-inches to 5.5inches, seen from the Galaxy Note to the Note II.
Overall screen sizes of mobile devices are on the rise, and Samsung has been happy to lead the charge with other devices, such as its flagship Samsung Galaxy S series. The recent Samsung Galaxy S III sports a 4.8-inch display, a generous increase from the previous Galaxy S II’s 4.5-inch screen, and rumor has it the Samsung Galaxy S IV will sport a 5-inch display.
Samsung probably won’t be alone, with a number of handset makers already offering models approaching 5 inches, but the Galaxy Note III may stand out from the crowd.
All of this is still speculation, as Samsung has yet to confirm or deny the report, but if the Note III truly is set offer a 6.3-inch display the line between tablet and smartphone is about to get even blurrier.
