Rumors of an updated version of the Samsung Vibrant have been circulating recently, and now a potential release date for this Android OS smartphone has leaked out.
This upcoming model will supposedly offer full support for T-Mobile’s HSPA+ network, as well as other enhancements, like video-conferencing capabilities..
According to information coming from a source inside T-Mobile, the Vibrant 4G isn’t going to hit store shelves for another month and a half, on Feb. 23.
Pricing for this model has yet to be disclosed.
Preliminary Overview of the Samsung Vibrant 4G
Many of the specifications of this upcoming smartphone have leaked out, revealing its new features.
The Vibrant 4G will allegedly offer the fastest data connection available to T-Mobile customers, as it is the first smartphone from the wireless carrier to offer 21+ Mbps speeds on its HSPA+ network — the 4G speeds on the T-Mobile myTouch 4G and the T-Mobile G2 are capped at 14.4 Mbps.
This upcoming Samsung model will also be one of the new generation of smartphones with a front-facing camera and video chatting software. It is supposedly going to come pre-loaded with Qik, a video conferencing app made by a company that was recently acquired by Skype. In addition, the device is going to have a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera.
Like its predecessor, it will have a tablet shape with a 4-inch, WVGA, Super AMOLED touchscreen.
It will reportedly debut running Google Android OS 2.2 (Froyo) on a a 1 GHz processor, and have 16 GB of memory (expandable up to 32 GB).
