Trend Micro Mobile Security 1.0 is a newly-released application for smartphones that provides anti-virus and anti-spam protection.
To celebrate its debut, its developer is giving the first edition away free of charge until June of 2005.
“Many people will put hi-tech gadgets, data-centric mobile phones, and PDAs on their holiday gift wish list. As the number of people using the devices increases, so they become more enticing targets for virus writers,” said Raimund Genes, President of EMEA Operations at Trend Micro. “By offering the first version of Trend Micro Mobile Security free of charge, Trend Micro wishes to provide its customers and their data-centric devices a secure holiday season.”
The only version of this anti-virus application currently available is for devices using Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 2003 for Smartphone.
However, the company says that a version for handhelds using the Phone Edition of Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC and Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition will be supported in January of next year.
Wireless handhelds running the Symbian OS v7.0 with UIQ v2.0/2.1 user interface will also be supported in January.
Trend Micro Mobile Security version 1.0 can be downloaded from the Trend Micro web site.
The free version of this application expires in June of 2005.
