Sony Ericsson has confirmed the release of the P800 will be in the fourth quarter of this year in the US. The P800 was slated for release in 3Q, but it has been held up by longer than expected delays from carriers.
This new entry into a crowded PDA market represents the first major assault on the Palm OS dominated integrated device market. Kyocera, Samsung and Handspring all have, or will shortly, multiple Palm OS devices targeting this all-in-one market. The P800 will be the first serious contender in the States in a long time to use the Symbian OS. While much of America is unfamiliar with Symbian, Europe has been using the OS for years and it quite happy with it. With the much anticipated arrival of the P800, I think the US will adjust to Symbian just fine.
