Without much fanfare, it has been revealed that the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY will not be a Verizon Wireless exclusive for much longer, as the PlayStation-branded phone will be coming to AT&T.
Like the Verizon Wireless version, this new Xperia PLAY will run Google Android OS 2.3, aka Gingerbread, making it only the second handset on the AT&T network to run Gingerbread (the other being the soon-to-be-released HTC Status). As for its data connectivity, it will run on AT&T’s HSPA+ network, which is capable of speeds of 21 Mbps.
And for those looking for a slightly different change of pace, the device will be made available in a new color, a dark “stealth blue” option, in addition to its standard black model. Other than the network and aesthetic changes, the AT&T Xperia PLAY will be the same as its Verizon counterpart, including specs like its 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and its slide-out gaming controls, which include a d-pad and trackpad.
Specifics about its release date and pricing with a new contract have yet to be announced.
