Sony Gains Approval to Sell Bluetooth GPS Unit for Clies

Even though Sony won’t release new Clies outside of Japan, they may still release a few accessories they planned long before their decision to pull the cord. Sony is expected to begin sales of their Bluetooth GPS unit for Clies in Japan on June 12th, it’s unknown if a US release will occur at the same time, if at all.

Bluetooth GPS units have become bery popular over the past year as Mobile Tech users demand fewer wires and more mobile freedom. In typical Sony fashion, they’re releasing a unit that is geared toward their Clie line of PDAs and is not expected to immediately be compatible with other Bluetooth devices.

Following are the pictures from the FCC approval file:

It’s a waiting game to see if they do indeed release this product in the US. While I’m sure a number of Clie owners are excited about the possibility, the aggregate market in the US must be small, as few Clies actually have Bluetooth hardware. The liklihood of a UK release is probably a good deal higher than in North America.
