Sony has taken the wraps off the second version of its device dedicated to reading ebooks. The new model offers a number of improvements over its predecessor, including a better screen.

The Reader Digital Book (PRS-505) has a display with a faster refresh rate than the earlier model, a higher contrast ratio, and eight shades of gray, up from four.
For the first time, the device can act as a USB-based removable drive, allowing people to easily transfer files into its 64 MB of internal storage — which Sony says is enough for 160 ebooks — or its Memory Stick Pro Duo or SD slots.
In addition to ebooks, this reader has support for Adobe’s Acrobat (PDF) files, as well as RTF, plain text, and JPEG.
Sony says this device’s battery will last long enough to let the user read 7,500 pages.
The Reader Digital Book (PRS-505) is available now for $300 on SonyStyle.
