Yesterday’s announcement from Google ushered in the era of Android 4.3, still AKA Jelly Bean. But it wasn’t clear which devices would receive the updeate to the newest version of the OS (other than the most recent Nexus hardware), so Sony sought to clear the air via its mobile blog earlier today.
A number of Sony devices, both smartphones and tablets, will be receiving the update to Android 4.3, according to the post. The full list includes the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia SP, and the Xperia Z Ultra. Also mentioned in the post is the fact that Sony is considering upgrading some of its devices that currently only support Android 4.1 directly to Android 4.3, though it did not name any specifically.
Unfortunately, much like Google, Sony failed to provide even a general window for when the Android 4.3 rollout would begin for its devices. Instead, it addressed only the fact that, “rollouts are a phased process — timing and availability may vary by market/carrier.”
