Soon You May Charge Your Phone Just by Carrying It Around

M2E Power has announced the development of an external charger for mobile devices that will use kinetic energy as its source.

Retrieving power using kinetic energy has been employed in watches, flashlights, and some automotive braking systems, and this application is similar.

M2E Power’s solution utilizes a unique generator, though. This is based on converting of kinetic energy into electric current via magnetic induction. According to company, “the technology originates from a fundamental change in magnetic architecture, and is composed of an integration of unique generator capability and energy/battery management electronics.”

This unique design allows it to convert relatively slow motions into current. Users won’t have to work hard to recharge their mobile devices, just carry the charger around with them.

Coming Next Year

M2E promised recently that it will introduce a small portable charger next year. This will allow someone to charge a phone for 30 to 60 minutes by carrying it around for 6 hours or so.

It hopes to someday see portable electronics with this technology built right into them.

The company is also looking into military applications and energy solutions for wave and wind turbines.
