Symbol Technologies has renewed its license of the Palm OS. Under the terms of the agreement, Symbol will continue to use PalmSource’s operating system in several current handhelds, as well as future ones.

The handhelds developed by this company are for industrial use. They often contain bar code scanners or other specialized features. Symbol is one of the few companies that makes both Palm OS and Pocket PC handhelds.

“Symbol continues to provide a choice in operating systems for its enterprise mobility customers, allowing them to select the business applications that best meet their mobile workforce requirements,” said Chuck Dourlet, vice president of product marketing, mobile computing, Symbol Technologies. “A wide selection of solutions enables workers within all kinds of organizations to capture, move and manage information in order to increase productivity and efficiency.”

The financial terms of the agreement between Symbol and PalmSource were not disclosed.
