T-Mobile Finally Getting the iPhone

T-Mobile will soon become the fourth U.S. telecom to offer the iPhone. This won’t happen until next year, however.

Sprint iPhoneThe smaller of the Big Four U.S. carriers, T-Mobile has been losing customers because it wasn’t able to offer Apple’s popular smartphone. That was the case, at least, until today’s announcement.

T-Mobile USA CEO John Legere made the big reveal at an investors conference in Germany, home of its parent company, Deutsche Telekom.

“T-Mobile has entered into an agreement with Apple to bring products to market together next year. Additional details will be made available at a later date,” a T-Mobile spokesperson told ABC News.

At this point, it’s not clear whether T-Mobile will offer the iPhone 5 or will start with Apple’s next-generation smartphone.

Financial Details?

There have been rumors for years that T-Mobile will be getting the iPhone, but these have never born fruit… until now.

The main factor that has prevented T-Mobile from offering Apple’s smartphone until now has been cost. For an idea of the financial burden the telecom is taking on, Sprint says that it needed $15.5 billion to offer this device.

T-Mobile has not revealed what it expects adding the iPhone to its lineup will cost. Still, T-Mobile’s  Legere said today “We worked very, very hard for a deal that made sense for us.”
