The T-Mobile G2x debuted recently running Android OS 2.2 (Froyo), but the company promised today that an upgrade to version 2.3 (Gingerbread) is in the offing. This will bring a number of new features to this cutting-edge smartphone.

T-Mobile G2xThe promise on an upgrade came on T-Mobile’s Twitter feed, in response to a question from a user:

thephilbert (Jeremy Blaker): I’m totally in love with @tmobile’s g2x but I do miss a few things about gingerbread.

T-Mobile USA: @thephilbert Gingerbread is coming to the G2x soon. You won’t have to wait long.

The G2x is one of the most advanced smartphones on the market, thanks to its 1GHz dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, 4-inch WVGA (800 x 480) touchscreen, 8 megapixel rear-facing camera, 4G, and support for HDMI mirroring.  Its lack of Android OS 2.3 is one of the few cutting-edge features it’s missing.

Google says that Gingerbread is the fastest version of its operating system yet, and it offers an enhanced user interface with an on-screen keyboard that many think is easier to type with than the previous one. In addition, the process for cutting and pasting text has been improved with a set of movable bounding arrows.
