T-Mobile Posts, Removes Pocket PC Phone Edition Upgrade

T-Mobile briefly made a Windows Mobile 2003 upgrade available for its Pocket PC Phone Edition device, but removed it after many people who downloaded it ran into problems.

This was one of the first Phone Edition devices to be released, back in 2002. It uses T-Mobile’s GSM/GPRS wireless network.

Users of this device have been hoping for an upgrade to the latest version of Windows Mobile for many months and thus were thrilled when T-Mobile posted one this week. However, some people who installed the update found that it disabled the device so completely that it had to be replaced by T-Mobile.

A new version of the Windows Mobile 2003 upgrade for this cellular-wireless handheld is expected in the coming weeks. When it’s available, it will be posted on the T-Mobile web site.

T-Mobile is no longer offering this device and is expected to begin selling the next version, called the xda II, in the U.S. in the coming months.

Thanks to willy gunawan for the tip.
