T-Mobile Prepping a Less Expensive Sidekick

by Reads (5,109)

The T-Mobile Sidekick series has proved to be popular with consumers below the age of about 25, but at $200 for the latest model it’s somewhat expensive for a teenager. That’s why Danger, Inc. — the company behind the Sidekick line — is apparently putting together an entry-level device.

This will be called the Sidekick ID, and won’t include the camera or support for EDGE cellular-wireless networking that’s in the Sidekick 3, according to Engadget.

The upcoming unit is still expected to have the same general shape as previous Sidekicks, and it is being designed and built by Sharp.

The reduction in features will supposedly allow T-Mobile to charge just $99 after rebate for this model.

It is not known at this time when T-Mobile will introduce the Sidekick ID, assuming this unconfirmed information is correct, of course.
