T-Mobile has officially announced the HTC Sensation 4G, a phone that had come to be known by its “HTC Pyramid” codename. This upcoming Android OS model will include a range of advanced features, starting with an expansive touchscreen and dual-core processor.
The Sensation’s big highlight is going to be its functionality as a multimedia device. The official announcement proclaimed it “a smartphone that is built from the ground up for a sophisticated, evolved multimedia experience.”
It will be the first phone to ship with HTC Watch software, an application/service that sounds like HTC’s attempt at Netflix. This will provide a video library with titles available for rental or purchase, with purchased videos being viewable across up to five HTC devices — implying that HTC Watch will become commonplace in future products from this company.
HTC Sensation 4G Specifications
HTC did not give word on which OS the Sensation 4G would be featuring in the official announcement, but it was last reported that it would be Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and HTC has said nothing to indicate otherwise. This OS will also be layered with a new version of the HTC Sense user interface. HTC has confirmed earlier reports that the Sensation’s display will be a 4.3-inch qHD (960 x 540) Super-LCD touchscreen. Reports of a dual-core 1.2GHz processor were also correct, with the device featuring Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chip.
Additionally, the HTC Sensation 4G will feature a rear-facing 8 megapixel camera that can record 1080p video at 30 fps. No mention was made of the rumored and expected front-facing VGA camera, making it seem like the feature was most likely scrapped. It will naturally support T-Mobile’s 4G HSPA+ wireless network (14.4 Mbps download, 5.76 upload) and have Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, GPS, and DLNA.
This model is going to offer 1 GB of internal storage as well as a microSD memory card slot for additional capacity. Other features will include a 768 MB of RAM, 1520 mAh battery, FM radio, and a range of sensors like ambient light, digital compass, gyroscope, and G-sensor.
Price & Availability
The HTC Sensation 4G will be available exclusively from T-Mobile at some point this summer. Exactly when that’s going to be is not yet known. This carrier says that “pricing will be released closer to availability,” so an official number will not be announced for a while.
