T-Mobile is releasing a significant software update for the Samsung Galaxy Note II, which will activate support for the company’s 4G LTE network.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2Thus far, T-Mobile doesn’t have an active LTE network, but has been working on building the infrastructure to roll out the service to its customers. Today, the company announced that the LTE network will go live by the end of the month in its first service regions, which are rumored to be Las Vegas and Kansas City, although the company has not confirmed these locations.

The upgrade to the Galaxy Note II will be a maintenance release and will begin rolling out today, but will likely take a few weeks to reach all of T-Mobile’s Galaxy Note II smartphones. The update means owners of those phones will have access to the higher speeds of the 4G LTE network as soon as it’s activated.

The activation, which will come later this month in some regions and continue throughout the year in others, is expected to coincide with the availability of the BlackBerry Z10, which is LTE enabled, on T-Mobile’s network.
