Tapwave has released a software driver that allows its gaming-oriented handhelds to use Wi-Fi SD cards.
The Zodiac series has a pair of SD card slots, one of which supports SDIO, allowing it to handle other types of cards. However, until now, the software necessary to allow a Zodiac to use a Wi-Fi SD card hasn’t been available.
This Wi-Fi card uses the 802.11b standard. It can transfer data at up to 11 Mbps and has a maximum range of about 300 feet.
In addition, this company intends to release in the future a driver that will allow its handhelds to use SanDisk’s Wi-Fi SD card that also has 256 MB of storage.
But Wait, There’s More
The Zodiac models come with a web browser and an SMS application, but not one for email. To repair this omission, Tapwave has posted on its web site a free email application for the Zodiac series.
This provides access to IMAP4-enabled email servers such as Microsoft Exchange, Novell GroupWise, and Lotus Dominio, as well as POP3-based email accounts such as those available from most ISPs.
Of course, it supports the Zodiac’s full hi-res+ screen in both landscape and portrait modes.

Thanks to Tapland for the tip.
