Tapwave had announced that its Zodiac gaming-oriented handheld will be available in the U.K. for the first time on Friday, October 22.
The Zodiac will be available exclusively through PC World and Dixons (including its Tax Free stores). It will be available online through the PC World web site.
The 32 MB Zodiac 1 will be available for a suggested retail price £270, with the 128 MB Zodiac 2 for £330.
A number of games for this model will be released in the U.K. before Christmas.
A New U.S. Distributor
Starting this month, the Zodiac handheld and its accessories will be distributed by D&H Distributing, one of America’s largest distributor of computer products and consumer electronics.

The Zodiac’s 320-by-480 pixel screen offers both portrait and landscape modes. This transflective display is 3.8 inches when measured diagonally and offers 16-bit color. It has an ATI Imageon graphics accelerator and uses the the Fathammer X-Forge 3D Game Engine.
Obviously, the main focus of this handheld is playing games, and it comes bundled with two: Stunt Car Extreme and Acid Solitaire.
To allow users to play games head-to-head, the Zodiac includes Bluetooth short-range wireless networking. Bluetooth can also be used to wirelessly connect this handheld to a mobile phone for Internet access.
The Zodiac sports two SD slots, one of which supports SDIO. A Wi-Fi SD card is expected to be available for the Zodiac in a month or so.
