The Latest on Verizon’s Version of the Treo 700p

At the official announcement of the Treo 700p, Palm, Inc. said both Sprint and Verizon Wireless would be offering this smartphone. Yesterday, Sprint announced that it will be the first wireless service provider to have it, and today Verizon promised to have it soon.

Both of these wireless service providers, however, have been somewhat vague on exactly when they will begin selling this device.

Sprint would only say its version would be available before the end of this month, and Verizon Wireless says it will start offering it “within the next few weeks.”

At this point, it looks like both companies will be charging the same price for the Treo 700p, $400 with a two-year service contract.

More About the Treo 700p

The Treo 700p is the latest smartphone developed by Palm, Inc. It was just announced yesterday.

It will run Palm OS 5.4 on a 312 MHz XScale processor. There will be 60 MB of internal Storage and an SD card slot for holding additional applications and files.

It will have the same general form factor as most of its predecessors: a candybar design with a 320-by-320-pixel screen above a miniature keyboard.

Other significant features in this Treo are a 1.3 megapixel camera and Bluetooth 1.2.

Both Sprint and Verizon have said that they will allow this smartphone to be used as a wireless modem for another device, like a laptop.
