Toshiba has announced 3 new PDAs: The Genio 550 DT, Genio 550 CT and Genio 550 GT. These devices have both CF and SDIO expansion, 128 MB of memory, and the CT version has a built in camera. The catch is that Japan might be the only place to see these new PDAs.
Whatever the case, even though we don’t know the ultimate fate of these devices ever making it to North America or Europe, it’s worth taking a look at the Japanese retail site Toshiba has that features these new PDAs, there are some great pictures and flash demos already up: http://genio-e.com/pda/. These devices are definitely a throw back to the old Genio look and based on the pictures the screens look really fantastic.

Toshiba Genio 550 DT (Dictionary Model)
Toshiba Genio 550 GT (High-End Base Model)
I’m not quite sure what the “Dictionary Model” is exactly, an obvious guess is that it of course includes dictionary software but I’ve never heard of a device maker creating a separate device and branding it in such a way. Anyway, here’s the rest of the specs these devices share:
- OS: Pocket PC 2003
- Intel PXA 255 400 MHz Processor
- 128 MB RAM, 32 MB ROM
- Secure Digital (SDIO) and Compact Flash Expansion
- 320 x 240 screen
- 125 mm, 76.55 mm, 15.9 mm (length x width x depth) (differ slightly for each model, these measurements are for the 550 GT)
- 170 grams (differ slightly for each model, this weight is for the 550 GT)
We’ll keep you posted to see if these devices or the mysterious e800 and e400 series devices show up on the shelves in the U.S. and Europe.
