Toshiba has announced two new Pocket PCs, one of which breaks new ground for this platform by including 480 by 640 pixel (VGA) screen.
The e805 runs Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC Premium Edition on a 400 MHz Intel Xscale PXA263 processor. It offers 128 MB of RAM, 32 MB of ROM, and 32 MB of NAND Flash ROM for extra storage.
This model has a 4-inch VGA screen, making it the first Pocket PC to offer this resolution. It also supports 240 by 320 pixel (QVGA), necessary to provide backwards compatibility with applications that don’t support the higher resolution. It uses an ATI Graphics Controller with 2 MB of internal video memory.
The e805 has integrated Wi-Fi wireless networking and dual slots: CompactFlash Type II and SD/MMC.
It comes with a swappable 1320 mAh battery, and an optional 2640 mAh one is available.
This device is 5.3 inches high, 3.0 inches wide and 0.6 inches thick (135 mm by 75 mm by 15 mm) and weighs 6.8 ounces (193g ). It has a new look, but doesn’t include a flipcover.
Toshiba’s suggested price for the Wi-Fi version of the e805 is $599. It’s on sale now at the Shop Toshiba web site.
The Toshiba e405 runs Windows Mobile 2003 Professional Edition on a 300 MHz Intel XScale PXA261 processor. It has 64 MB of RAM and 32 MB of NAND Flash ROM.
It’s 3.5″ screen is at the Pocket PC standard 240 by 320 pixels. It has a single SD/MMC slot which supports SDIO. It includes a built-in 980mAh Lithium-Ion battery.
This handheld can operate as a USB host with a special cable, available from Toshiba.
This model is 4.9 inches tall, 3.0 inches wide, and 0.4 inches thick (124 x 76 x 10 mm). It weighs 4.6 ounces (130 g).
