Toshiba Launches Trade-In Program

Toshiba is now offering a program that allows people to trade in previously-owned electronic devices for discounts on new Toshiba products. The pre-owned items don’t have to be made by Toshiba.

One of the categories of items that can be traded in is handhelds. The discounts vary by model and condition but none are for very large amounts. The trade-in value for a Toshiba e740 Pocket PC in excellent condition is $64. An iPAQ 3800 series model gets $42. The trade-in on a Palm Vx is $21.

A trade in might not be worth it on newer handhelds. For comparison, a used e740 can sell on eBay for over $200. And even a Palm Vx can go for $60.

This trade-in program is somewhat similar to one offered by Palm Inc. earlier this year, but Palm offered $50 for any handheld, no matter what its age or condition. Of course, that program applied only to handhelds. Toshiba’s Trade-in Program is much more flexible. In addition to handhelds, it accepts most desktops, notebooks, monitors, servers, printers, and plotters from many manufacturers. The discounts can be used to buy any Toshiba products from its online store or from any retailer, including the company’s latest Pocket PC models.

To qualify for the discount, people need to visit the Trade-in Website and enter the details of their pre-owned hardware. Toshiba then provides customers with an online quote. Once a customer faxes an Acceptance Notification to Toshiba, and provides the company with proof of purchase of their new Toshiba product, they will be issued a redemption check within 30 days.

People can call 888-309-2939 (8:00AM – 8:00PM, EST) with questions.
