Due to a battery issue that may result in the loss of critical data, Toshiba is recalling the popular e740. The first PDA to integrate WiFi, Toshiba has been credited with taking the Pocket PC to the next level.

It seems the issue is rooted in the battery being unable to charge leaving the user in a bad place when the power eventually runs dry. Any data that was not saved at the last sync will be lost for good. While the glitch affects the entire e740 line, the largest percentage of the problems have resulted with the WiFi versions found in the US.

The following PDF has details on which units are subject to the recall and has directions for sending your unit for repair.

Editorial Note – Give Toshiba credit for taking responsibility for this issue. It took Palm months before they admitted to the static problem with the 500 series.
