The FCC has given its approval to a CDMA version of the Toshiba TG01, raising the strong possibility that this very high-end Windows phone is coming to Sprint, Verizon, or even both.
This device also raises the bar in a second area: it’s the first to run Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro on 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.
The documentation filed with the FCC reveals nothing new about the U.S. version of this model, aside from its support for CDMA cellular-wireless networks.
More about the Toshiba TG01
Instead of the standard Windows Mobile user interface, this smartphone runs a 3D one created by its manufacturer.
The large display doesn’t leave room for a D-pad, but this model include an on-screen virtual trackpad.
It comes with Microsoft’s standard suite of entertainment and productivity software, and a GPS receiver.
Despite all its built-in features, the TG01 is just under a centimeter thick, or 0.39 inches.
This high-end smartphone is already available in various countries in Europe and Asia.
When the U.S. version will debut, and what it will cost, is not yet known.
