Toshiba has announced that it will release three new Genio Pocket PC handhelds at the end of this week, one of which will have a whopping 128 MB of memory. The catch is they will be available only in Japan.
The primary difference between the three handhelds is memory. The Genio e550GS will have 64 MB of RAM, while the 550GX and 550GX/MD will have 128 MB. In addition, the 550GX/MD will ship with a 1GB IBM Microdrive. All of these will have the same form factor as the Genio e550G that is already available in the U.S. and will use 400 MHz Intel XScale processors.
The e550GS is a consumer-oriented device and come with a set of headphones and a control wand. It will go on sale this Thursday for about $490.
The 550GX and 550GX/MD are for business users and will come with ClearVue Office which will allow them to read Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint files. The 550GX will be released on November 15 for around $575 and the 550GX/MD will be out near the end of this month for roughly $820.
Toshiba has not yet announced any plans to release these in other countries.
