The Treo 600 has proved to be very popular, but many of its users believe it has one significant flaw: there is no way to add Bluetooth to it.
This smartphone does have as SD card slot, and there are several Bluetooth SDIO card on the market. However, there are no drivers available to allow the Treo 600 to use any of the cards. TreoCentral is tired of waiting for someone to create such a driver, so it is organizing a pledge drive to raise enough money to convince some developer to create one.
At this point, $750 has been pledged towards this goal, $500 of which is from TreoCentral. The site is also collecting pledges from Treo 600 users who are willing to contribute their money to help convince someone to develop a Bluetooth SDIO driver for their smartphone.
In order to qualify for the bounty, the driver must allow the Treo to HotSync with a PC over Bluetooth, and exchange files with another Bluetooth-enabled device. It is also hoped that this driver will allow the Treo 600 to use wireless headsets, though this is not a requirement.
Any driver that wins this prize will still belong to the developer, of course, but a free copy must be given to everyone who contributed money to the bounty.
More details are available on the TreoCentral web site.
