Getting into the spirit of giving, U.S. Cellular has announced a new unlimited data plan for subscribers living in one of its 4G LTE markets, and is offering some extra perks to persuade users to take part in the limited time deal.

U.S. CellularCustomers will be allowed to use as much data as they wish with the new $40 per month plan, granting them unlimited access to U.S. Cellular’s LTE network. Furthermore, users can pay $20 extra a month to add tethering, allowing them to share Wireless Data between their smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices. With the carrier’s existing data plans ranging from $20 per month for 300MB to $90 a month for 10GB with an added tethering function, this deal may benefit some of the more content hungry consumers.

With the high-speed network already available in parts of Maryland, Missouri and North Carolina, among other areas, U.S. Cellular aims to have 4G available to 58 percent of its current customer base by the end of the year. The carrier recently expanded the faster speed service to parts of Iowa, Oklahoma and Wisconsin as well, making it the only provider to offer an unlimited 4G LTE option in most of its markets, according to its press release.

The company is also offering a separate promotion on handsets, providing a $100 instant rebate on select smartphones. With the Samsung Galaxy S III included in the deal, one can’t help but think that U.S. Cellular is trying to sweeten its unlimited 4G LTE promotion with the discount of this device, which is equipped with high-speed connectivity. The carrier is also throwing in a Samsung SCH-LC11 hot spot for free with the purchase of any smartphone or tablet.

With Verizon and AT&T no longer providing unlimited data plans, the carriers have left plenty of room for other networks, such as Sprint Nextel, T-Mobile USA and MetroPCS to introduce unlimited packages in attempts to pick up annoyed customers. U.S. Cellular is the latest to join the ranks of unrestricted data usage, though those who are interested better act fast, as this deal isn’t likely to last for long.
