U.S. Cellular has just announced the addition of the Motorola Electrify to its smartphone repertoire. This will be a cutting-edge Android smartphone with a large display, fast processor, and high-res camera.
The Electrify is going to sport a 4.3-inch, qHD (960 x 540) touchscreen and a dual-core 1GHz processor. The Android-based handset will feature an 8MP camera with dual LED flash and auto photo-enhancing software and a front-facing camera. In addition the Electrify also will have a HDMI output with full Mirror Mode and 16GB of on-board memory, which can be expanded with microSD memory cards.
This will be one of Motorola’s Webtop handsets, which means users will be able to plug it into an option HD Station and convert it into a simple PC. When in the dock, the device will run Linux with a full version of the Firefox 4.0 web browser.
The Electrify is expected to hit the market at the end of the month and will be available for $200 after a $100 mail-in rebate along with purchase of a data plan. However, customers on U.S. Cellular Belief Plans who are eligible for a phone upgrade can get the Electrify at the promotional price without signing a new contract.
In a recent survey by J.D. Power, U.S. Cellular ranked the highest in the North Central region for the fewest customer-reported problems. This was the 12th consecutive reporting period that the carrier topped the list in this area.
