Pocket PC Techs has just begun offering to upgrade the ASUS MyPal A620BT to 128 MB of RAM. This model currently offers 64 MB of RAM.
This upgrade requires Pocket PC Techs’ proprietary driver, which segments the memory into 64 MB as ‘conventional’ RAM and 64 MB as a Hi-Speed T2T Disk.
Essentially, this acts somewhat like a built-in SD or CompactFlash card. However, benchmarks show that writing a 1 MB file to a T2T Disk is up to 18 times faster than writing the same file to a CF card. Writing files to the T2T Disk is up to four times faster than writing them to RAM.
Potential customers should be aware that this upgrade is not supported by ASUS and will void the warranty on the unit. Pocket PC Techs offers a 90 day warranty on the upgrade and motherboard of the unit.
The normal cost of the upgrade will be $159 including second-day return shipping within the U.S. However, it is currently on sale, bringing the cost down to $129.
