Sierra Wireless announced today that its Voq Smartphone is now available. This is the first Windows Mobile smartphone to include a built-in, miniature QWERTY keyboard.

The suggested price is $500. The Voq can be purchased through Insight, MobilePlanet, and RCS Computer Experience. The device will operate on the AT&T Wireless network.

More about the Sierra Wireless Voq

The thing that makes the Voq unique is its flip-open miniature QWERTY keyboard. It also includes a regular phone keypad.

The Voq runs Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 for Smartphone on a 200 MHz Intel PXA262 XScale processor. It includes 32 MB of RAM, of which 16 MB is available to the user to run applications. It also has 48 MB of Flash memory, of which 20 MB is available to the user to store data and software.

Like all handsets running this operating system, the Voq has a 176 by 220 pixel screen and a joystick for user input, not a touch screen. It has an SD/MMC slot for removable memory cards.

This is a tri-band phone (850, 1800 and 1900 MHz), supporting GSM voice networks and GPRS data networks. Users are able to access email and the Web, send instant messages, make phone calls, play games, and run other types of applications.

Additional information on the Voq is available from the Sierra Wireless web site.
