WebLink wireless offers two-way paging devices like the Motorola Timeports and service to both business and consumer users. This year they will offer many new devices like the HuneTec H500 powered by Palm OS 5.
While most PDA Manufacturers are ditching mono displays, this is the first Palm OS 5 device to willingly go that route. Clearly this unit is a direct attack on BlackBerry.
Exact specs are a little spotty, but here’s what we know:
*Features Palm OS 5
*Integrated wireless (for two-way messaging)
*Integrated QWERTY keypad
*Touchscreen with stylus
*Expansion slot (most likely SD)
*Rechargeable battery with life of one week
These units will be available in the second half of this year for roughly $250. I like the concept, but I’m not sure how this unit will stack up against other wireless PDA options. Certainly the “always on” connection has mass appeal, but are Palm users ready to give up features like color and multimedia for this feature? Hopefully we’ll be able to obtain a pre-release unit and report back.
