Where Is the Treo 650?

Yesterday, palmOne took the wraps off its latest handheld, the Tungsten T5. However, it didn’t have a word to say about its next-generation smartphone, the Treo 650, which many had expected to be unveiled at the same time as the T5.

There’s good news and bad news for those who are waiting impatiently for the arrival of this smartphone,

The good news is palmOne is expected to officially unveil the Treo 650 on October 25.

The bad news is that will probably be several more weeks after that until the latest Treo model is available from any wireless carriers.

According to the latest rumors, Verizon Wireless is going to begin offering the new palmOne smartphone some time in the middle of November. Sprint PCS is expected to start carrying it later that month.

An Overview of the Treo 650

Treo 650 According to rumor, the Treo 650 will be quite similar to the current Treo 600 in size and shape, but will include a 320-by-320-pixel (HiRes) screen and Bluetooth short-range wireless networking.

In addition, the new model’s built-in camera will be better than the Treo 600’s. It will be a 1.3 megapixel camera capable of taking both still images and video.

The Treo 650 is expected to run Palm OS Garnet on a 312 MHz processor. It will have 32 MB of RAM.

Like the Treo 600, the upcoming model will have an SD slot. However, unconfirmed reports say it will not be able the palmOne Wi-Fi SD card.

Both GSM/GPRS and CDMA versions of this smartphone are expected to be available in the coming months.
