When the Windows Phone finally hit stores, one of the major gripes from consumers was the device isn’t stocked with the same amount and quality of apps, when compared to those available by Apple and Android users.
Recently, Apple announced it is close to 50 billion downloads from the Apple App Store. But Microsoft hasn’t been sitting still either, as the Windows Phone Store continues to grow and add more apps–specifically, the most popular apps.
The Windows Phone Store now offers 80 percent of the apps on Apple’s lists of Top 25 Free and Top 25 Paid apps. There are still some major holdouts, most notably Instagram, and some apps available for free in the Apple App Store are paid apps in the Windows Phone Store, but the majority of apps consumers are looking for are now available on Windows devices.
It’s good news for Windows as it tries to claim a larger market share in the crowded smartphone market, which has long been dominated by mobile giants like Samsung and Apple.
