Conclusion

Honor5X2Considering that Huawei is the third largest smartphone manufacturer behind Apple and Samsung, it’s no surprise it has delivered an economy smartphone that budget-conscious buyers would be wise to consider. It isn’t an iPhone or Galaxy as its performance and spec sheet reveal some limitations, but it’s not as far off as its price suggests.

As of this moment it’s only available for purchase direct through Huawei, or via Amazon and Newegg. That the major carriers have dropped subsidies and contracts makes the Honor 5X’s $200 price tag appealing. Its quality build, large display, and handful of high-end features only make this phone all the more tempting.

Pros:

  • Slick exterior design
  • Decent display
  • Unique and useful dual SIM design
  • Multi-functional fingerprint ID sensor
  • Great photo quality

Cons:

  • EMUI skin over Android 5.1.1 needs some work
  • U.S. carrier support too limited
  • No Android Marshmallow (6.0)
  • Slow battery recharging
  • Lacks NFC and dual-band Wi-Fi
